If, like me, you frequently find yourselves in the necessity to write e-mails or text in two (or more than two) languages, you probably have realized that writing in a language different from the one that is currently set in the iOS is really extremely irritating. The predictive typing engine of iOS will continuously change the words you type with possible suggestions found in the dictionary. You can imagine what happens when you write in english and the dictionary is in italian.

Fortunately there is a quick solution that works both for the iPhone and for the iPad.

What it is needed to do is just to go into the General Settings of the iPhone or iPad, then go in International, and tap the entry Keyboards. There you will find a list of the keyboards currently configured to be used with your device (there should normally be only one). If you tap on “Add new” under this list, you will be able to add new keboards to the list.

After having added a new keyboard, in every occasion that the iOS will pop up the keyboard, you will see that a new button showing a globe appeared at the left of the keyboard. If you simply tap on this key the iOS will cycle through all the keyboards installed. If you tap and keep your finger on the key, you will see the list of available keyboards and be able to choose the one you want to use. When you switch the keyboard the layout and the dictionary will be changed accordingly and you could easily type in the new language.

All these instructions of course apply to iOS devices like the iPhone and the iPad.
