I had some troubles recently in sending e-mails with the Apple Mail client from multiple addresses through the Gmail SMTP server. Here is the issue. I have several mailboxes configured in Apple Mail, with several different e-mail addresses. I recently have added two more to the ones already configured but when I tried to send e-mails with the new addresses I realized that the e-mails were sent using a different e-mail address (one of those already configured). I have investigated the issue for a bit and finally found the solution…
I have been using BibDesk as a reference manager for a while now. I have mainly used it for organizing my database of references with the PDF file attached. Unfortunately BibDesk works perfectly with LyX or LATeX, but not so easily with Microsoft Word, and at least for me, it is more common to use Word to write papers than LyX or LATeX. For this reason I tried both Zotero and Mendeley to have a reference manager that could support the whole literature search, reading, cite lifecycle. My final choice was Mendeley (also because now I have all my references database and files on the iPad too). Importing the references database in Mendeley was pretty easy but…
If, like me, you frequently find yourselves in the necessity to write e-mails or text in two (or more than two) languages, you probably have realized that writing in a language different from the one that is currently set in the iOS is really extremely irritating. The predictive typing engine of iOS will continuously change the words you type with possible suggestions found in the dictionary. You can imagine what happens when you write in english and the dictionary is in italian.

It has been a while since I have installed Viber and Whatsapp in my IPhone 4. For longtime I have been not albe to test nor to use them since I did not find other users that were among my contacts but now that these two apps have spread a little bit, I have had a chance to use them.
What can I say then? First of all that they rock, Viber above the other. Second that it is funny to play with. I just have one concern regarding Whatsapp. Since Viber integrates both the VOIP functionalities with the text chat, Whatsapp seems less necessary. Nevertheless the chat in Whatsapp is slightly better than the one in Viber (which has also been a recent development), so is it worth having installed both of them?.
Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to all my blog visitors.
Recently I have been experiencing occasional reboots with my MacBookPro. Usually these reboots were happening when the notebook was idle for some time. It was really annoying, especially because sometimes I wanted to leave my Mac running the whole night to complete a torrent download. I have googled the problem a couple of times and I have found hints related to the power management preferences of to problems with the battery. None of them where the right solutions for my problem, but in the end I think I have solved it.
I think the title of this post is self explanatory, but I repeat it one more time: I am impressed. I am in the middle of an intense work session with Microsoft Word for Mac since I am writing a monograph. This time I decided not to use LyX for writing the text and rather use the newest version of Microsoft Word for Mac, the 2011. I have to admit that I was not 100% fine with this decision, but since my editor provided me with templates for Word and no templates for LATeX, and also since because I am writing the monograph really in a hurry, then I have decided to go for Microsoft Word. And what was the result? Continue reading »
This is just a quick post. When I have created the Google Analytics account I remember that I have created a sort of a filter that prevented Analytics to record also my visits on the website. But all this has happened many months ago, and now I no longer remember what have I done and how.
Since I have noticed that the analytics log was showing strange behaviors of visitors on my blog, I have thought that probably that filter would not have been in place for word press too. This is why I have googled the problem a little bit and I have eventually identified a solution.
